A Word Of Warning!
I have had an interesting experience with a management consultant lately … when I say interesting, I mean really degrading and destroying! But it’s all my fault as I let them into my business and let them into my life … go figure!
The reason for this post is a warning to fellow business owners who want help and hire somebody that you (unfortunately) put your trust in e.g. they have the “runs on the board”, they have “the CV” and seem to have age on their side …
Another fellow business owner that I trust and they have been around me for about 15 years now once told me … “work with a person for at least two years before you go into business with them” and for me the “going into business with them” also includes … placing a person into a position of trust where you “take on board” what they are saying is real! Again … all my fault for wanting to have that mentor to take the load off!So what is the lesson … this is the key to moving forward:
- Trust in yourself;
- Keep in control of your business – 100%;
- Have mentors and listen but you are the driver;
- If they are talking negative about you to you or to others – get rid of them immediately.
Some people are management consultants because they don’t have what it takes to be the owner of the business. As the owner of your business you have the right to make decision about your business … even if those decision may be wrong!
Be in control of your own destiny and “yes” take advice! Remember to listen to your own council though as you are the one driving!
and get referrals, do your background checks, look into their history and make sure there are no hidden agendas!
